Box Office Rundown 2/17/2020

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to this holiday weekend edition of Box Office Rundown and the first to feature Sonic as the number 1 movie. Now I am sure Sonic will be repeating it’s success next weekend as well. Sonic may have taken the number 1 spot but no one thought it would run away from the pack like it did. Usually when a movie gets delayed it never a good thing but in this case it turned out to be a great thing. Birds of prey came in a at distant number 2. Sonic wasn’t the only film to debut, we had The Photograph and Fantasy Island debut as well as Downhill. I didn’t think much of Downhill or the Photograph but I thought Fantasy Island would do a little better than it did. Sure it came in at number 3 but this year hasn’t been kind so far to horror films which is bad news for Brahms: the Boy 2 because that film has no hype around it. Now this upcoming week we have Harrison Ford’s movie The Call of The Wild on top of The Boy 2, once again we will be having an revolving top ten but here is the current top ten.

  1. Sonic The Hedgehog, 57 million
  2. Birds Of Prey, 17.115 million
  3.  Fantasy Island, 12.4 million
  4.  The Photograph, 12.270 million
  5.  Bad Boys For Life, 11.305 million
  6.  1917, 8.090 million
  7.  Jumanji: The Next Level, 5.7 million
  8.  Parasite, 5.500 million
  9.  Dolittle, 5.050 million
  10.  Downhill, 4.671 Million

Now Sonic was no doubt the winner but here are the losers, Dolittle and The Gentlemen dropped 5 spots with The Gentlemen falling out of the top ten. Now here are my predictions

  1. Sonic The Hedgehog
  2. The Call of the Wild
  3. Birds Of Prey
  4. Brahms: the Boy 2
  5. Fantasy Island
  6. The Photograph
  7.  Bad Boys For Life
  8.  1917
  9.  Jumanji: The Next Level
  10.  Dolittle

Box Office Rundown 2/10/2020

By Paul Anthony

Welcome back to another week of where we find who made it to the number 1 spot and who came up short. This week we saw the release of Birds of Prey which as predicted debuted at number 1. However the problem is the numbers were underwhelming with barely making it to 34 million but with international numbers which saves a lot of movies to worldwide gross came to around 81 million dollars. Another winner in my eyes has been Knives Out this movie last week was out of the top ten only to be back in the top 10 and been in the top ten for most of it’s box office run which started at the end of November. We can’t have winners without Losers though only one of these two films are actually an loser both Gretel and Hansel and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fell three spots though both remain in the top ten. This week will no doubt shake things up a bit because we have three new movies joining the box office with one being a big name. We have Sonic the Hedgehog which is predicted to be number and then you have Fantasy Island and The Photograph. 2020 hasn’t been all that kind to horror films so it will be interesting to see how well Fantasy Island will actually do.

  1. Birds of Prey, 33.250 million
  2.  Bad Boys For Life, 12.005 million
  3. 1917, 9 million
  4. Dolittle, 6.660 million
  5. Jumanji: The Next Level, 5.553 million
  6. The Gentlemen, 4.180 million
  7.  Gretel and Hansel, 3.510 million
  8.  Knives Out, 2.350 million
  9.  Little Women, 2.325 million
  10.  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, 2.226 million

Predictions

  1. Sonic
  2. Birds of Prey
  3. Bad Boys for Life
  4. Fantasy Island
  5. The Photograph
  6. 1917
  7. Jumanji: The Next Level
  8. The Gentlemen
  9. DoLittle
  10. Knives Out

Well, to say last weekend was a slow weekend would be an understatement. Here we have another weekend of movies where the new films just underperformed and couldn’t make it into the top 3. bad Boys once again came in at number 1 which wasn’t a shocker. The war movie 1917 keeps on hanging in there with coming in second place. Now here is the film that keeps remaining in the top 5 but yet is a flop and that film is Dolittle which has managed to get 126 million worldwide. The losers of the weekend is The Turning, which fell two spots, then you have Gretel and Hansel which came in at number 4. Welcome to another week of seeing where the box office went this week. Now we know Bad Boys For Life would take number 1 at the box office in it’s second week without a problem. If you predicted that then you would be right. Now last week I predicted Dolittle to start to fall after it’s debut at number 3 well the good news that id didn’t job in position because in it’s second week it came in as number 3 just 3 million behind the war movie 1917. This past week we had two new movies that jumped in the race and the one was called The Gentlemen which I figured to come in at number 2 turns out it couldn’t beat Dolittle and came in at number 4. Another opening film The Turning came in at number 6. I had it coming in at number 3. Now we do have two new films coming into play this week as  and those films are Gretel and Hansel and The Rhythm Section. With A week box office week I predict a few changes but nonetheless I believe bad Boys will take the number 1 spot again but Let’s look at the current top ten and my predictions for the next week!

  8. Little Women, 4.700 million

Box Office Rundown 1/21/20

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to a new week and oh wow what a weekend it was, we had Bad Boys for life and Dolittle going head to head. Many people figured this would be a battle to start the year off both films are big budget films and had star power to go with it but what we ended up getting a no contest. Bad Boys for life took the number 1 spot by a landslide and for Dolittle it failed to come even close to Bad Boys. In fact Dolittle came in third behind the war movie 1917 which took the second spot and Dolittle took the third spot and with a budget of 175 million, this film has become the first big bomb of the year. For the winner this blog I am giving it to Bad Boys because it just crushed anyone and the losers for this week was Dolittle and Under Water. Dolittle because it is becoming a flop and Under water because it fell from 7th to 11th an no longer in the top ten.

1.Bad Boys For Life, 62.150 million

2. 1917, 22 million

3. Dolittle, 21.950 million

4. Jumanji: The Next level, 9.680 million

5. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, 8.302 million

6. Little Women, 6.350 million

7. Just Mercy, 5.770 million

8. Knives Out, 4.323 million

9. Like a Boss, 4.35 million

10. Frozen 2, 3.918 million.

Now here are the prediction for how next week’s top ten should or could look like.

  1. Bad Boys For Life
  2. The Gentlemen

  4. Dolittle
  5. Just Mercy
  6. Jumanji: The Next Level
  7. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

  10. Knives Out

Box Office Rundown 1/13/19

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to this week edition and like always we will look at the top ten movies and see how well they did! This past weekend we saw the advantage of having a limited release first then having a wide release. two films in the top 5 had limited releases before going into this week. The number 1 spot goes to the war film 1917 and last week winner Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker fell to number 2. Just Mercy which is a drama that had a limited release came in at number 5 in it’s first weekend as a wide release. the Biggest winner though goes to Just Mercy because it sat at number 29 and jumped up 24 spots to reach the top 5. 1917 was big winner as well because it went from 17th to 1st jumping up 16 spots. We do have a few losers both Spies in Disguise and Frozen 2 fell four spots but still remain in the top ten unlike the Grudge who fell from 5th to 12th. I am also starting a new title and that is the flop of weekend and the first one to be added to this list is Under Water which came in 7th in it’s opening weekend. now Let’s look at our top ten.

  1. 1917, 36.500 million
  2. Star Wars; the Rise of Skywalker, 15.059 million
  3. Jumanji: The next Level, 14 million
  4.  Like A Boss, 10 million
  5.  Just Mercy, 10 million
  6.  Little Women, 7.650 million
  7.  Under Water, 7.003 million
  8.  Frozen 2, 5.761 million
  9.  Knives out, 5.725 million
  10.  Spies in Disguise, 5.108 million

Now we do have two big names entering the run this week and that is the long awaited Bad Boys for Life and the reboot of Dolittle! Now here is what I am predicting!

  1. Bad Boys For Life
  2. Dolittle
  3. 1917
  4. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
  5.  Jumanji: The Next Level
  6. Just Mercy
  7.  Little Women
  8.  Frozen 2
  9.  Like a Boss
